Here's what's happening in the Sabbatical Beauty lab right now: seasonal returns, reformulations and top secret experiments.

Rose hydrosol (anti-inflammatory, redness-calming) paired with hyaluronic acid (binds up to 1000x its weight in water) creates a fast-absorbing serum that hydrates deeply while soothing irritated, heat-stressed skin.
Lab note: Rose hydrosol is the base here, not water, so the soothing effect is doing real work from the first ingredient down.

A 15% acid “Sake Bomb” splash mask—glycolic + fruit acids balanced with sake and hops extracts—that can be diluted or used full-strength to reset dull, congested skin without tipping into irritation..
Lab note: Built as a controlled experiment: push exfoliation to 15% total acids, then stabilize it with sake, hops, aloe, panthenol, and arginine so it clears effectively without destabilizing the skin barrier.

Cooling gel cleanser that calms heat-driven redness while gently cleansing with peppermint hydrosol, cucumber extract, and colloidal oats without disrupting the barrier.
Lab note: In the 2026 version we switched the variety of colloidal oat extract we used to shift the texture from cream to gel. This increased cooling hydration while maintaining skin barrier support.

A microbiome-supporting pressed serum (serum–moisturizer hybrid) packed with fermented botanicals and beta glucan to calm inflammation and help reactive skin stabilize.
Lab note: “Pressed serum” is a Korean skincare category I use to describe a serum–moisturizer hybrid: a dense moisturizer so packed with botanical actives that it functions like a serum.
