All About Dale! A Summer Box Reviewer

Hey Dale! We’re so thrilled to have you on as a Summer Box Reviewer! Could you start by telling us about yourself?
Outside is the place for me, unless I’m snuggled in at home. That works too. I’m from California, and I now live in New Jersey and attend a doctoral program in New York City. My academic interests are disability studies, composition and rhetoric, and eighteenth- and nineteenth-century British literature. I teach online and in-person.
Much of my professional and social life is online these days. I have attended the weddings of friends and former students online, given conference papers online, leaned new Zumba routines online, attended camp online—well, you get the idea. (big smile!) I also learned how to care for my skin online; thank you Sabbatical Beauty! Sabbatical Beauty also gave me a community I value and some lifelong friends. I have meet a few Sabbatical Beauty folks in person at conferences, and it has been a real treat to do so!
Awesome. Now could you tell us about your skin type, and the the conditions for summer for you?
Ahhhhh, summer. My skin is, um, dynamic; I’m in my late fifties and for numerous reasons my skin type is often in flux. While I can get oily in my t-zone, my cheeks are often dry, as is the skin at the outer-corners of my eyes and above my eyebrows. I can get acne at the sides of my face near my hairline with the occasional spot setting up residency on my chin, forehead, or cheek—usually when I have to attend an important event. At times, I have more than my fair share of blackheads. I also like to keep things interesting with rosacea. I have lines on my cheeks and at the corner of my eyes when I smile.
I live in the Mid-Atlantic and summers are hot and humid. I spend equal amounts of time outside and inside with AC. It’s that combination of hot and humid and cool and dry that left my skin confused and congested before I fell in love with Sabbatical Beauty. I love changing my skin-care game with the seasons—doing so feels like a celebration!
