Gua Sha is a healing massage technique from Traditional Chinese Medicine that can be used to lift, tone and tighten skin, increase the efficacy of your skincare, and for your skin to look refreshed and glowy.

The technique stems from the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), and involves the use of a skincare tool (like this one!) with a flat edge that can be used to press-stroke or scrape lubricated skin in one direction. This, according to the Chinese, moves qi (气) or energy around the body. In allopathic medical terms, this translates into improving circulation which releases stagnant blood and toxins. This movement allows for more blood and nutrient flow to stagnant areas, allowing for healing and rejuvenating tired skin.

Skin Benefits:

  • Plumper, smoother skin
  • Lifting
  • Toning
  • Reduces appearance of wrinkles
  • Glows you up

Practice guasha after you have cleansed and completed most of your routine, right after you apply a moisturizer or sleeping cream. Make sure that you apply enough cream so that your skin has enough "slip". You don't want your skin to catch and tug as that will damage it.

You can find more detailed instructions on how to do the exact scraping here.

This Guasha is made using fair trade procured green aventurine.

In crystal healing, green aventurine represents luck, abundance and happiness. It's also connected to issues of the heart and emotion, and is known as a stone of personal growth, to accept opportunities about learning about oneself and one's place in the universe.

Guasha love

I've only recently added the Guasha tool to my routine and I love it. When I have a layer or two of serums and moisturizers on my face, the tool glides across my skin, helping it to absorb more yummy SB products and signaling to all the tense muscles in my face that it's okay to relax. I added a jade roller to my routine this past summer and am finding that the two tools complement one another: it feels so good to use a chilled roller (it lives in my fridge) around my eyes while the Guasha tool feels especially good on my neck and around my jaw. And it doesn't hurt that the Guasha tool is lovely and feels good in my hand.

Relief for fatiqued eyes!

I have eyes that get tired very easily and no amounts of eye drops can take away the fatigue, dryness and itchiness. But recently, I realise that I am relying less on the eye drops and the only change in my lifestyle is that I have been using the guasha tool to complement my routine! I love using the narrower end to trace and massage around my eye area, and really press down along the eye socket area. It always make me feel so relaxed and soothed. I believe it helped with better circulation and hence my eyes feel refreshed! I will definitely recommend this to everyone who experiences eye strain and need the relief!

You need this tool. Imagine your worst day... You wake up late, get stuck in traffic, have a bad interaction with a client/colleague... None of those matter because you know you'll be going home to your beautiful green aventurine SB gua sha tool which will massage away all of your stresses and woes. You need to get your hands on one and pair it with your favorite SB beauty oil (I'm looking at you, blush oil!) I've never used one before but it's become a regular part of my routine... It is a relaxing part of any nightly self care... Happy massaging!

Beautiful & Relaxing

First of all, this tool is beautiful. A heart-shaped green aventurine guasha for your heart chakra 💚 It’s one of my favorite stones to help with luck, success and emotional issues.
Using the guasha for facial massage is so relaxing, as well. It’s a great way to unwind at the end of the day. I especially like using it cool (I pop it in the fridge for a few minutes). It feels really nice, and helps relieve some puffiness. I often get headaches, and using it at my temples really helps. I also use it on my feet sometimes. I work 12+ hour shifts and my feet really feel it at the end of the day. This makes them feel sooooo good!

Gua Sha = Happy Skin

SB's Gua Sha tool not only helps relax my facial muscles, it also helps with lymphatic drainage--a lot. While I use the tool at night during my first cleanse with Vacuum Cleansing Oil or toward the end of my skincare with Ekaterina, I also use it some mornings when I have an exceptionally puffy face. The Gua Sha massage leaves my skin feeling smoother and with a welcome glow. SB's Gua Sha tool is a game changer that's easy to use!
