  • We named this serum after the Chinese Moon Goddess Chang E (嫦娥) to represent the yin energetic elements within the serum: two types of silver, three types of pearl, marine collagen, aloe vera and PHAs (polyhydroxy acids). Each element is designed to calm and soothe reddened, irritated and inflamed skin, which makes it ideal for acne or any kind of irritation, and to give you bright, pearlescent skin.

    Ingredient Deep Dive:

    ✨Two types of silver (colloidal silver and genuine silver flake). Colloidal silver is used in wound dressings because it helps to speed wound healing.

    ✨Three types of pearl extracts. Ground pearl has been used for hundreds of years in East Asia to achieve bright, pearlescent skin.

    Pearls are potent antioxidants, containing 17 amino acids, minerals and proteins such as conchioline which helps replenish and rebuild the skin's natural collagen. Used for brightening and evening skin tone.⁠

    ✨Marine Collagen. Derived from fish scales and bones, marine collagen is a smaller particle size than bovine collagen, making it more bioavailable

    ✨PHA (polyhydroxy acid) in the form of Gluconolactone. PHAs have a larger molecule size than the better known AHAs (alphahydroxy acid) and BHA (betahydroxy acid). This means it provides gentle exfoliation with less irritation than other acids.

MAGICAL for radiance and fading melasma

Chang E's serum is magical. Incredibly light in texture, I use it as my first serum after cleansing and before my more moisturizing second serum, Asian Powerhouse. Over time, it has made my skin look radiant and even-toned, reducing not only redness but the mask-like melasma that emerges whenever I get the slightest sun-exposure. My melasma appeared during pregnancy, a darkening of pigment on my upper lip and neck. The extremely harsh cream prescribed by my dermatologist for melasma merely made my skin red and sore, and inflamed my perioral dermatitis, without doing much for the pigmentation. The dermatologist recommended I discontinue it, saying my skin was just too sensitive. Chang-E's serum, on the other hand, has gently faded it away. If I run out of Chang-E's serum, I notice dullness reappear within a week or two, redness around my nose and in laugh-lines coming back, and unevenness in pigmentation returning. The fact that the serum also contains flecks of pearl makes it feel like a fairy-potion. What's not to love? It's a must-buy for me.

Serum was already dried out when it arrived

I wanted to like this so badly, and the few drops that I tried were interesting, but unfortunately, when this item arrived, it was already completely dried out, leaving about 5 drops-worth at the bottom of the bottle...

It just works! Great for atopic skin

OK I'll be honest -- I kind of wanted Chang E to not work. I had already tried APH and I was hoping that they would be "about the same" and I could just use APH, which is significantly more affordable! However, when i switch away from Chang E to APH, I can feel the difference. I have atopic skin that easily gets slightly red rashy and hive-y if it is even a little bit disturbed, and Chang E may look like water, but it is just so soothing and calming. It doesn't hurt at all when I pat it on, even on my most reactive atopic days. With sustained daily use, my skin is just so much calmer and doesn't get disrupted nearly as easily. I guess I'll just have to keep paying for the Chang E. ;-)
