Tell us about you!
I’m a twenty-three year old university student graduating late because I do not want to leave school. These are the things I have been doing with my life for the last few years: currently studying Sociology with minors in Gender Studies and Religious Studies, makeup and skincare enthusiast, wannabe fashionista (I try to only buy secondhand clothing or local brands). I do part-time jobs at local bookstore BooksActually, and coach debate at high schools. I intern for a local poet and have been hopefully been able to contribute to our local literary scene in a small way, while doing my own writing, which will hopefully one day be published. I have recently gotten into yoga and am probably the fittest I have been in years, though I’ve not been going for as many classes since I’ve started working at the bookshop.
I feel like there are many things I want to do and enjoy doing, and there is just so little time. The fields I’m looking at are also so diverse - poetry and literary work, I’d love to go back to theatre, I want to do something writing related, and fashion and makeup related. And I love teaching! Argh. So many things, so little time.
If you were an SB product, which product would you be, and why?
I’m not sure about this one. Perhaps Camel Milk and Yeast Mask? I have been told that I can be very soothing. I have also been told that I am volatile and scary (I say both are untrue I am just misunderstood :( ) but apparently I can be intimidating. I don’t think there are any SB products that fit this description though! They are mostly nice hydrating soothing things. Except perhaps the Tea Tree and Volcanic Ash serum, out to destroy all the acne. XD
What makes you angry?
Oh lol. Many things. The fact that my acne never quite goes away no matter what I use, but magically clears up the second I leave the tropics. =(  People being inconsistent about their beliefs. People misusing Islam - a truly beautiful and beautifully misunderstood religion that is being abused at all levels. Stupid people. Stupid stubborn people who think they know everything. But also people who do terrible things and get away with it. I still believe in Justice, but more often than not it does not happen. =(
What makes you happy?
Reading, fiction mostly. Playing with cats. Makeup. Nice clothing with interesting details. A good yoga session. Seeing the kids I coach grow and turn out into wonderful young adults. Writing. People telling me they like my writing, that’s always nice to hear. Researching - a big reason why I am still in school is because I have been a bit too enthusiastic about that. I love a good debate spar - I tell a lot of people that I don’t feel alive unless I’m on the floor. Not even yoga gives you that kind of adrenaline. The closest to it would maybe be standing before the mic for a speech/spoken word session I think.
What’s your desert island SB product, and why?
Marine! Moisturizing, and it does so much for my acne - I swear my hormonal acne has gotten so much better since I’ve started using it.
What is your favorite thing about your skin?
I think the colour and translucency of it. When I was younger I hated my skin. I am quite pale, and used to burn very easily under the sun, and when I have acne the redness of it all is very apparent. It’s taken me awhile to embrace the paleness - it helps that I do gravitate towards gothy type of looks and makeup - and I can now tan a little without burning. I think it’s all the products I’ve been using over the years, that has sort of ‘strengthened’ my skin so it’s not so delicate anymore.
