Cindy is wicked funny and smart, and one of our favorite people ever! Take it away Cindy!!
(Cindy: "This is my ‘no-makeup, I didn’t wash my hair, and my clothes are grubby’ selfie. Because that’s how great Sabbatical Beauty is -- it doesn’t matter what kind of day I’m having, my skin always looks fabulous.")
Tell us about you!
I’m married to my childhood sweetheart, Chris. We have two cat friends, 19-year-old Yoda, and five-year-old Wedge Antilles (Wedgie). We’re from Scottsdale, AZ, but we live in Tuscaloosa, AL now. Moving to the South was a huge cultural adjustment, and we miss the Sonoran Desert and its great Mexican food. We both had careers in tech, but after a buyout, I went back for a PhD in Rhetoric, Composition & Linguistics at ASU, and now I’m junior faculty in comp/rhet at The University of Alabama (roll tide!). I’m a nerd. I like all things comic book, scifi, video games, code, tech, urban fantasy, and music. I love to garden, cook, cycle, travel, hike, sail, snorkel, and swim. I’ve had a lot of sports injuries over the years. Grad school, the job market, and relocating my household drove me to a new level of exhaustion. Together, that’s a pretty sketchy combination, and as a result, I badly injured my leg and ankle earlier this year and underwent reconstructive surgery over the summer. I’ve been miserable about my body and my limitations, and Sabbatical Beauty has been a lifesaver. Through the SB products and community, I’ve rediscovered self care. Having these care rituals and supportive friends has kept my spirits up and given me lovely skin - a positive feature that I can focus on instead of feeling unhappy about pain and immobility.
If you were an SB product, which product would you be, and why?
I’m a problem solver, so I would be Moar Honey II because it soothes bug bites, chapped skin, dry skin, scratches, flaky eyelids, and even regrows severed limbs. I’m kidding about that last one. Mostly ...
What makes you angry?
I try to not let things get to me, and I let a lot of stuff go. I generally think the best of people, and I grant a lot of grace. I’m pretty easy going. But Icannotstand bullies.
What makes you happy?
It sounds cheesy, but I am really happy with my life. Working on university campuses is great because students are so high energy and hold such promise -- so, I love my job. My partner, Chris, is just the best of everything. I really do live under a glittering star of good luck and good choices.
What’s your desert island SB product, and why?
Until a couple of weeks ago, I would have said Blush Beauty Oil because it makes my combination skin sooooo calm, bright, and healthy. But that’s before I met Dorian Gray’s Beauty Oil. It does all the lovely things for my skin that Blush did, but it also has the benefits of Dorian Gray Anti-Aging Serum. It plumps my cheeks, softens the lines around my eyes, and absorbs like a dream. I want to fill a pool with it and paddle around in it.
What is your favorite thing about your skin?
It’s not so easy to find foundations that are not too pink or too yellow for my beige undertones, but I’ll tell you what, I’m neutral enough that I can wear almost any blush, lip, and shadow color. I avoid orange-y bronzers, and I can’t do those light nude lippies, but otherwise I love that I have so much freedom when it comes to makeup colors.
Thanks so much for agreeing to be part of our fan spotlight! If you would answer these questions (as long or as short as you want), and include a photo of yourself we can post on our blog, we would be most grateful!! <3
