Foon Chong: She's a Sabbatical Beauty

Foon Chong She's a Sabbatical Beauty

Hi, thank you so much for talking to us today! Tell us a little about yourself.

I am an introvert by nature and not so good with self introduction (so bear with me haha).

Ironically, my job as a TV producer-director forces me to (actively) interact with people and usually i need to be in the position to put everyone at ease, so that forces the shy cat out of the bag… I love all things natural and appreciate things that are handmade, artisan and curated with integrity and creativity, i guess that’s what drew me to Sabbatical Beauty.  I am a vegetarian by choice, largely because i support nature conservation, eco-consciousness and is against animal cruelty. My biggest recreation is painting~drawing and recently, gardening! And yes i am a cat slave too! (opps the information is not “little” anymore.)

Can you tell me about how you felt about your skin before you tried Sabbatical Beauty? How did you feel about the products you were using at the time?

Mainly oil-combination skin (active T-zone before my 30s), the large saggy pores, laugh & fine lines (aging skin) and emerging age-sun spots has been a concern these past few years. I have never been stingy with skincare, but have not found any miracle despite spending on conventional premium skincare brands. Nothing seems to work, not even the slightest. I stopped going for facials (by beauty professionals - Murad) four years ago, its just too expensive for me.

None of the products, including the premium ones that cost a bomb, has presented me with any noticeable improvement or results so far.  It felt so much like i was just spending and hoping for miracles to happen.

What were your biggest fears and struggles about trying new skincare lines?

I love trying new skincare - especially those that screams “organic” and “anti-aging” on its packaging, the main struggle is probably the price, as producers don’t earn a lot here in Singapore.

How did you discover Sabbatical Beauty?

A random post pop up on my FB feed one fine day, with the word “artisanal” and curiosity lead me to the FB group

What made you decide to try Sabbatical Beauty?

“Anti-aging”, and “Organic” (none of the Sabbatical Beauty products contains paraben!), these are paramount for me, especially when choosing something i use on a daily basis.  I didn’t care enough for my skin, and did not bother about sun protection so now i really need to start repairing the damages over the years.

Also, the fact that Adeline Koh (the founder of SB) is a fellow Singaporean with a heart for the community, and always working for welfare & respect for woman in general, makes it a no brainer for me to look elsewhere!

I think intention is the most important thing on earth, everything starts there and carries on with that influence.  To me, SB cares enough and i believe what goes into each product has our best interest at heart.

After trying the products and getting results i have never seen when using other skincare brands, affirms my “loyalty” further!

What results did you hope to see with Sabbatical Beauty, and did you achieve those results?

I want to look younger (like most women) than my age!

With SB, I have seen my pores reduce (in size) significantly, lines softening and milia seeds (around my eyes) disappearing, and in general my skin has a healthier glow now, thats a miracle! Now i wish the texture can further improve, and my eye bags can reduce too!

Sabbatical Beauty so far is the only skincare brand with which i have noticeable improvements with. With SB, i am always looking forward to the next improvement! And that’s encouraging me to never stop my self love journey!

Now that you have integrated Sabbatical Beauty into your regimen, how do you feel about your skin?

I feel more confident taking selfies or photos with friends! In general, i feel my skin is softer and more hydrated, the texture (pores reduced) is improving, i think it’s the effect of APH, Piper’s Peat and Marine. There was some purging in the beginning (with the help of VCCO, rose cleansing balm/bethany clay and Beauty water) and some pigmentation became more apparent and gradually subsided with Dorian Gray application. DGS also helped to smooth out some of the fine lines under my eyes, hoping the deeper ones will be less obvious.  Friends have remarked how my skin looks brighter.

Now i simply love touching my face, especially after using Sakekasu, Holy Lotus or Bethany Clay masks!

Many people tell us that they find the Sabbatical Beauty Facebook community one of the best parts of the brand. What’s been your experience in the community?

Sabbatical Beauty Facebook folks feels very much like family now, i have never expected to meet with such warmth and love in a FB community! Everyone is just eager to help and offer useful advice in all areas of life (not only skincare). Met up with Jennifer Graeber from California in early March when she volunteered to help me bring over my SB goodies and save some shipping fees, in the end we shared an afternoon of laughs and thoughts!

Its a routine for me now, to see what’s on SB FB every morning when i wake up! It just feel like i know everyone…

i feel so comfortable to even just to share something silly (or seen otherwise mediocre by regular FB friends) with my SB friends! I know they are always there to encourage and make it all better!

If you were a SB product, which one would you be?

This is a tough question! I wish i can be light + happy like Piper’s Peat, uplifting + helpful like Dorian Gray, fast + effective like Sakekasu, sweet + calming like Holy Lotus, soothing + full of goodness like Sleeping Beauty Oil, Efficient like Vacuum cleaner…

If i really have to choose one, probably Piper’s Peat!
